CBD Oil: 5 Medicinal Uses and Benefits

Cannabidiol, or better known as CBD, is one of the most well known cannabinoids that is found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects meaning there is no ‘high’ feeling that is often associated when consuming marijuana. This makes CBD a great option for patients who are looking for relief without the ‘buzz’ as it offers a variety of medicinal benefits. Let’s take a look at a few ways it can help.

What Are The Benefits Of CBD Oil?

1. Reduce Inflammation and Pain

Studies indicate that CBD interacts with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). When CBD is consumed, it binds to the receptor sites within our body. This results in pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects which help with managing pain. CBD comes in multiple forms including oil and edibles. However, CBD can also come in a topical form which can then be applied directly to the problem area on the skin for localized relief.

2. Anxiety Relief

Anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults over the age of 18 every year, making it the most common mental illness in the United States. The relaxing and calming properties of CBD can not only help provide relief for anxiety alone, but it can also be beneficial for providing relief for other types of disorders such as PTSD, social anxiety, OCD and panic disorder.

3. Improve Sleep

If you struggle with falling or staying asleep, CBD can help you get a good night’s rest. As mentioned above, CBD can be helpful for alleviating symptoms of anxiety. If anxiety is one of the reasons an individual has difficulty sleeping, using CBD could be beneficial to help ease the mind and fall asleep faster. A study conducted by the Permanente Journal showed that out of 72 adults who consumed CBD on a regular basis, 66.7% of them had improved sleep scores and 79.2% had lower anxiety levels just after the first month.

4. Skin Conditions

Due to CBD’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, it can be used to improve numerous skin conditions such as itchy skin, eczema, and psoriasis. CBD can also be effective in fighting and reducing acne as it helps decrease the production of sebum in the skin. 5. Anti-Seizure

In 2016, a research study was conducted including 214 participants who were living with epilepsy. During the study, participants added an oral dose of 2 to 5mg of CBD to their existing epilepsy medications every day and it was monitored over a 12 week course. The results showed that participants experienced 36.5% fewer seizures per month.

Overall, studies have shown that CBD has promising effects to help alleviate specific conditions, especially due to its lack of psychoactive effects and possible lower potential of experiencing side effects compared to traditional medications.
