Smokable Marijuana Flower in West Virginia
A medical marijuana program was passed in West Virginia for those with qualifying medical conditions back in 2017. A year later, the advisory board recommended that raw marijuana flower be added to the products that are available for sale at West Virginia dispensaries.
After two more years, Senate Bill 339 was passed which allowed “dry leaf or plant form” to be added to the West Virginia medical marijuana program!
Since dispensaries are due to be open by the end of the year, smokable marijuana flower will be available to those with a medical marijuana card soon!
How to Use Marijuana Flower
So now that medical marijuana flower is available in WV, how do you use it?
One of the most popular ways of consuming marijuana is through smoking it. This method is so beloved because the effects kick in rapidly and since you are smoking it, you have more control over the dosing. Even though a lot of factors come into play when it comes to the effects of marijuana, typically effects last anywhere from one to three hours!
The most popular ways to consume flower are as follows:
Joints:
Joint just like cigarettes but filled with marijuana flower. They are rolled by flower in smokable paper.
Blunts:
Blunts are more similar to cigars as they are thicker than joints. They are wrapped with a blunt wrapper or an empty cigar.
Pipes:
Pipes are less popular than the previous too but are still a great option since all you need is the pipe, the flower and a lighter to enjoy.
Bongs:
Bongs are a fancy pipe that uses water to filter the smoke from the marijuana flower.
How to Dose Marijuana Flower
There are many factors that come into play when dosing marijuana. You have to consider the strain, the potency, the cannabinoid content as well as the terpene profile. While this sounds like a lot of factors to keep track of, it does get easier with time and experience!
The potency of flower is measured by the concentration of cannabinoids that are in each strain. Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds in marijuana that give off physical effects which can be psychoactive or not. The two most well known cannabinoids are THC and CBD. When you purchase flower from a dispensary, the product will share the percentages of the cannabinoids in the strain.
THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid that most people look at to consider potency. Below is a little cheat sheet you can use to guide you:
<10% THC
This percentage has a more mild effect which is great for beginners.
10-20% THC
This is a medium range which is stronger for beginners and more comfortable for seasoned users.
20%+ THC
This range is reserved for some of the strongest strains that you will find and should definitely be left to those that know what they’re doing.
Remember that this is only a cheat sheet. It is a generalized guide that you can use but everyone’s body reacts differently to marijuana. As long as you start low and slow you will be good to go!
