How to Counteract THC: 7 Ways to Sober Up Quickly

There are countless ways in which you can over consume medical marijuana. Many marijuana users can attest to this!

You can overdo it with a new edible that you thought wasn’t strong enough so you ate more, or maybe you added just a little too much of your favorite tincture to your drink. You could even just be a new medical marijuana patient and not know where your tolerance lies.

The possibilities are endless! But know that once you cross that line, it is possible that you can experience uncomfortable psychoactive effects from THC such as paranoia or anxiety. In other words, you can have a “bad trip.”

Here at West Virginia Marijuana Card, we want to equip you with all the tools that you need in order to make the best decisions for your health care. We not only are the go-to marijuana card provider in the state but we also want to let you in on some tips and tricks as to how to consume medical marijuana in the best way for you.

No one wants to experience an uncomfortable high, especially when you are treating your medical condition. Below are a six ways that you can sober up quickly if you accidently overdo it with your medical marijuana:

1. Do not panic.

Panicking is usually the first thing that people do when they realize they overdid it with their marijuana use. This is easier said than do but just keep reminding yourself that you are safe and secure.

One of the best things about marijuana is that it always wears off and has no long lasting effects. You also cannot overdose on marijuana which should be of comfort to you. Other than feeling uncomfortable, at the end of the day, you are going to be just fine!

2. Get water in your system.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drinking water when you have too much marijuana can help a lot. Not only does it get some much needed water in you but it also helps you focus on a small, simple task. Drinking water is familiar to the body so it will help ground you back to your normal self.

Remember to not drink anything with alcohol! Alcohol increases the THC in the bloodstream which can actually make matters worse for you.

3. Chew on black peppercorns.

I know this sounds super random but it actually helps counteract THC! No one is exactly certain as to why but smelling and/or tasting some black peppercorns can help you if you are feeling stuck in your head.

4. Get some rest.

One of the easiest things to do in order to counteract THC is to simply rest it out. Find a nice quiet spot where you feel secure and make a little nest for yourself out of some cozy pillows and blankets. Just snuggle up in there and take some full deep breaths to help center you. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Focus on your breath and let yourself relax.

If you are able to fall asleep that is even better! Some people find it hard to sleep after overdoing it, especially if they are dealing with paranoia or anxiety. If you’re not able to fall asleep just stay comfy and cozy in your little nest until you start feeling better!

5. Take a nice bath or shower.

Taking a long shower or running a nice bath for yourself is the perfect way to help you relax. It is another basic, everyday task that can help you feel more grounded. Sometimes being around a natural element like water can help comfort you which can be good for you.

6. Get some fresh air.

Unfortunately, our brains can’t just switch off but we can change up our scenery! If you accidentally overdo it with the medical marijuana, try getting some fresh air by getting out in nature. You can go for a walk to get your legs moving and your blood pumping. Just make sure you are with a person you trust and in a familiar area such as your neighborhood or favorite park!
