How to Make Sure You Never Run Out of Cannabis

West Virginia passed its medical marijuana program in 2017, making medical cannabis legal for patients with certain conditions.

Since then, the State has approved cannabis flower for purchase, and the demand for cannabis flower products has skyrocketed in the Mountain State.

Now, with limited dispensaries and cultivators operating, cultivators are having a rough go at keeping consistent product on hand and medical marijuana patients are faced with a new problem: How do I make sure I don’t run out of medical marijuana?

In this article, we’ll give you some tips and tricks for making sure you always have cannabis on hand and cover some ways to make sure your supply doesn’t run dry on a budget.

Tips for Keeping Medical Marijuana on Hand When There Are Shortages in West Virginia

Budget & Availability Make the Biggest Impact on Cannabis Supply Shortages

There are two main components of keeping medical marijuana on hand when there’s limited supply:

· Budget – Getting larger quantities of cannabis is tough in general when there’s limited supply, but it’s even tougher when prices are high at the same time. Getting your budget right when supply is low can affect how many trips you make to the dispensary and how much you spend at one time.

· Availability – Limited availability will mean tougher choices on products, and you may have to branch out and try new products that you’re unfamiliar with or products at a lower quality to access discounts.

When supply is limited in states where the price for cannabis is higher than the average, getting enough cannabis to keep you afloat can be tough on a budget.

There are some ways to ensure you always have cannabis on hand during a dry spell without spending extraordinary amounts of money, though obviously the easiest way is just to buy as much cannabis as you are legally allowed every time you visit a dispensary.

Look for Bulk Discounts on Cannabis When You Have Extra Cash

If you frequent the dispensary, it’s not a bad idea to scoop up any low-tier products that are discounted. Cannabis flower is still relatively new in West Virginia, so you might not see many of these discounts available just yet.

When discounts on cannabis do pop up, they’ll likely be on lower quality products or products that have been on the shelves for a while. If you occasionally add one or two of these kinds of products to your regular purchasing, you’ll always have a little extra, even if you don’t intend to use it until it’s necessary.

Another strategy is to purchase a gram or two extra every time you run to the dispensary and keep them in a “save for later” section.

If times are really hard, you may look to only purchase in bulk, and as opposed to going to the dispensary every week or other week, you might look to make a trip just once a month when availability is guaranteed at that moment.

How to Make the Most of Your Medical Marijuana in West Virginia

How You Consume Your Cannabis Can Make a Difference in How Much You Use

There’s no arguing that a blunt will contain more cannabis flower than a joint, and a joint will contain more flower than a bowl.

How you consume medical marijuana when supply is limited can make a huge difference on when you run out. Switching up the way you consume can even reduce the minimum effective dosage, which can ultimately make your bud last longer.

By far and beyond, though, vaporizing cannabis flower is the most efficient way to make sure you never run out of cannabis. Dry-herb vaporizers, as opposed to smoking, leave behind a usable product after they’ve been vaped, which can be directly baked into edibles and used for a second round.

Though you wouldn’t necessarily want to smoke cannabis that’s been vaped, you can make tinctures, edibles, and even concentrates with vaped marijuana, giving your whole bag a second life.

Reduce Your Trips to the Dispensary & Keep Track of Cannabis Supply Online

Another way to make the most out of your medical marijuana on a budget is to reduce your trips to the dispensary.

If you’re making a trip to the dispensary every week, you’ll be buying smaller amounts of cannabis that is available at that moment, which is perfectly fine when supply is always available.

When there’s limited supply, though, you might not get a chance to purchase the same cannabis products every week. You’d be better off by buying in bulk every other week or perhaps once a month.

In order to make this happen, you’ll need to make sure that products are available when you’re making your trip to the dispensary, and each dispensary provides their inventory online.

This may not be precisely up to date, so be sure to call ahead to make sure the products you’re looking for are available before you go.

You’ll be spending more money per trip, but since your trips will be reduced, you shouldn’t be spending any more money. In fact, by spreading out your trips to the dispensary this way, you may actually save money, because buying cannabis at higher quantities is almost always cheaper than buying in smaller quantities.
