New Dispensary Opens in Westover, West Virginia

West Virginia’s medical marijuana program allows patients with qualifying conditions to use cannabis as an alternative medicine for a variety of symptoms and conditions.

As a medical marijuana patient, you have the freedom to shop at any of the approved dispensaries selling cannabis in West Virginia. As the program continues to expand after legalization, more dispensaries are opening stores every month.

Verano’s newest Zen Leaf dispensary will join the trove of stores selling cannabis in West Virginia, offering cannabis flower, vape cartridges, merch, and Puffco smoking accessories at the newly installed location in Westover, WV.

Zen Leaf Opens in Cannabis Dispensary Westover, West Virginia

Flower, Vape Cartridges, & Puffco Devices

Zen Leaf’s Westover location marks the second dispensary in West Virginia for the company, with both stores located in the same area.

Zen Leaf’s Morgantown location was the first dispensary to be installed from the company, located at 205 Venture Dr Morgantown, WV.

The newest location from Zen Leaf is open at 871 Fairmont Rd in Westover, WV, only 15 minutes away from the company’s other store.

Both stores from the multi-state cannabis company offer medical marijuana products, smoking accessories, and merch like hoodies and T-shirts, though you won’t find identical inventory in both locations.

What Products Are Available from Zen Leaf in West Virginia?

Zen Leaf offers products like any other dispensaries in the state, carrying the Seed & Strain brand cannabis flower, Seed & Strain vape cartridges, and disposable vape cartridges.

You’ll find indica, sativa, and hybrid strains for the cannabis flower and vape cartridges at both locations, though each store will have different inventory.

Unique to these stores you’ll find products like Classix vape cartridges that are packaged in stylized boxes reminiscent of cassette tapes and a line of merch from Verano that includes T-shirts, hoodies, and crewnecks.

The stores are also carrying Puffco inventory, and you’ll find products like the Puffco Peak Vaporizer, Peak Pro Vaporizer, Plus Vaporizer, and atomizers for all devices. The Morgantown location currently has G-pen Connect vaporizers too, though neither store presently have 3D chambers or hot knives from Puffco.

Why Are There So Many Dispensaries in Morgantown, WV?

West Virginia’s Shape Makes It Tough to Cover All Districts

Monongalia County is the third largest county in West Virginia with a population of over 106,000 people.

The dispensary location in Westover is a little over a mile from the Morgantown Mall, and around 2 miles from West Virginia University, making it a prime location for the larger county.

Verano expects to open 5 more dispensary stores in West Virginia as well as a cultivation facility that will help the State’s cannabis market catch up to the high demand from patients. Morgantown is home to a handful of dispensaries including Trulieve, Zen Leaf, and a Cannabist location just outside of Morgantown in Harmony Grove.

Morgantown is also home to Appalachian Cannabis Company, and though it’s not a dispensary, the store does offerhemp-derived CBD and Delta-8 products.

Verano’s expansion in Morgantown/Westover makes sense for the size and location of the city, being a part of the North Central area, Morgantown is a prime location between the State’s upper West and East borders.

That makes it a central location for traveling from the Northeast and Northwest, while areas in Central and South Central are easily covered by dispensaries in Williamstown, Weston, and St. Albans.

More Cultivation Facilities Coming Next for West Virginia

Though the State has approved 10 cultivation facilities, West Virginia’s medical cannabis program is still relatively new, and construction for cultivation facilities can take a considerable amount of time.

With only seven cultivation facilities currently operating in West Virginia and more dispensaries coming online every month, supply is getting bottlenecked as new cultivators struggle to install cultivation facilities.

That makes installing cultivators a top priority for West Virginia, and Verano’s approval for a production facility will help get more supply into Zen Leaf and other dispensary locations.

West Virginia is a somewhat difficult-shaped territory for cultivation facilities and dispensaries looking to cover as much area as possible. Permit approvals, site construction, and legal paperwork all make the process increasingly difficult for companies looking to install both cultivation and processing plants as well as dispensary stores.

We’re just on the other side of halfway through 2022, and West Virginia’s made significant headway throughout the first half of the year. As the year closes, we expect to see a jump in inventory and an increase in availability at dispensary locations across the State, with 2023 being the likely target for most companies planning to open cannabis businesses in West Virginia.
