How to Save Money on Cannabis

Americans spend a considerable amount of money on cannabis each year, and with new states adding medical marijuana programs, companies are raking in billions as patients shop at dispensaries across the Nation.

With West Virginia's recent addition of their own medical marijuana program, patients are shopping at dispensaries for the first time and looking for the best deals available on cannabis products.

Because West Virginia’s program is still relatively new, prices are higher than most other states, though there are some clever ways to save a few bucks when shopping for cannabis in West Virginia.

In this article, we’ll show you how to save money when buying at the dispensary and how to get the best deals on cannabis in West Virginia!

How to Save Money at the Dispensary

What to Expect at the Dispensary

Prices for cannabis can vary across the United States quite significantly. Some states enjoy fairly low prices for cannabis while other states pay massive premiums for their medication.

Many of the reasons for the high cost of cannabis are related to legislation and regulation, where programs with a large or unlimited number of cultivators enjoy lower costs.

Other factors like home growing and dispensary locations can also affect the price of pot.Typically, the smaller the program the larger the cost.

Since West Virginia doesn't currently allow personal cultivation or a lot of cultivators to operate in general, patients will be faced with prices that reflect a smaller medical marijuana program, and as a result, cannabis isn’t as cheap as it could be.

When shopping at a dispensary in West Virginia, expect to see an 1/8th of cannabis flower to be around $50 - $60, and products like topicals, vape cartridges, or concentrates to be priced considerably higher.

Save Money at the Dispensary With These Tips

Many dispensaries across the USA offer discounts or rewards that can bring the cost of cannabis down significantly.

Although no dispensary is required to run any discounts, programs for bulk purchases, older inventory, or low-quality products are commonly offered at a discounted price.

Accessing these discounts can be extremely useful for patients who are looking to save a few extra bucks, because often discounts range between 10% – 20% or more.

Many dispensaries will also offer rolling discounts such as “Flower Friday’s”, “Tincture Tuesday’s”, or “Hash Wednesdays”, where you’ll typically find these products a few dollars off on that day.

Since the Mountain State’s program is still in its early stages, dispensaries are not as inclined to offer a multitude of discounts due to the limited availability of cannabis products in West Virginia, so while discounts may show up here and there it’s unlikely that you’ll find a lot of great deals for now.

If your local dispensary doesn’t offer many discounts, it might be helpful to travel around a bit to shop at other dispensaries to see what’s available. Since most of the cannabis in West Virginia is coming from the same sources, there isn’t much variety between dispensaries, but you may be able to find different discounts at other stores.

How to Save Money on Cannabis at Home

How You Use & Reuse Your Cannabis Can Save You Money

The dispensary isn’t the only place you can save a few extra bucks on medical marijuana products. In fact, you can save a lot of money by changing the way use your cannabis and if you re-use cannabis products.

Some types of cannabis products are not reusable, such as smoked cannabis flower, concentrates, or edibles. However, there are some cannabis products you may utilize in different ways.

For example, if you choose to vaporize your flower instead of smoking it, you can re-use the flower after it’s been vaped.

Already-vaped-bud, or AVB, can be used in a variety of ways such as making edibles, tinctures, and even topicals or concentrates.

Another trick for utilizing as much cannabis product as possible is to use a grinder that has a kief catch. As you grind cannabis flower, the trichomes will fall off the buds into the kief catch that will fill up over time. You’d be surprised how much kief you accumulate, and you’ll likely end up with a few extra bowls of kief each month if you save it up.

Rotate Your Products to Keep Your Tolerance Low

One of the bigger challenges for medical marijuana patients is tolerance, which will continually get higher until you reach your ceiling and see limited effects with low doses of cannabis.

Tolerance is often the best way to get the most out of your cannabis, as a low tolerance will help you save money by using less cannabis to achieve more intense effects.

While a T-break is the best way to reset your tolerance, you can help keep your tolerance more sensitive by continually switching up the products that you’re using. If you use indicas, try some sativas. If you prefer cannabis flower, try some concentrates.

Your body will get used to products that you frequently use and switching up your cannabis products can offer you an easy way to experience more intense effects with lower doses of cannabis, which will save you money in the long run.

Another clever way to save a few extra bucks is to hide your cannabis from yourself or stash a gram to enjoy later. Many patients put one gram away in an 1/8th of cannabis flower, and over time, you’ll find that you accumulate a decent stash, saving you a trip or two to the dispensary.
